SCiDA is all about excelling comparative research on digital competition. And we know first-hand how difficult it can be to navigate through a multitude of documents and legal texts from different jurisdictions. That is why we are excited to present to you two tools to facilitate your research on digital competition: The SCiDA Database and the SCiDA DMA Explorer!
Two exciting tools to accelerate your research on digital competition
The SCiDA Database is an up-to-date collection of official documents such as decisions, press releases and other policy documents related to the European Digital Markets Act (DMA), Sec. 19a of the German Competition Act (GWB) and the UK Digital Markets Competition and Consumer Act (DMCCA). It includes more than 400 entries dating from 2020 to today and is continuously updated with newly released documents.
The SCiDA DMA Explorer is a navigation tool for the legislative text of the DMA. No more scrolling between obligations, Recitals and definitions. It allows you to easily view Articles side-by-side their Recitals and benefit from a built-in definition service. It also includes references to external resources per Article for you to deepen your research.
The SCiDA Database: How does it work?

The SCiDA Database is an excellent starting point for research on the regulation of digital markets in the UK, Germany, and the EU. Rather than searching through a multitude of websites from the three jurisdictions, the database is a gateway (not a gatekeeper) to relevant documents from 10+ institutions. For each entry, both the official title and a short descriptive title written by our team are included. The database also lists the legislation (DMA, GWB, DMCCA), the publishing institution, the release date and the language of every document. This makes it easy to gather the relevant information on a document without having to look through the original document. Most importantly, there is a link to the full text of every document at the original source.
The database is searchable by selecting different filters, such as the language, the jurisdiction or the category of the document. Information on a particular topic, such as “interoperability” can be found by selecting a keyword in the filter or typing something into the search bar. Documents related to specific cases can be found by entering the case number into the search bar. The results can be sorted by newest, oldest or alphabetically by title. If no filters are selected, the whole content of the database is displayed, making it easy to browse when you don’t know what you’re looking for yet.
For the best experience with the SCiDA Database, we recommend using a desktop browser in full-screen mode.
The DMA Explorer: What does it offer?
Working with the Digital Markets Act text can be a lesson in frustration. Between the rigid layouts and the constant scrolling back and forth to the Recitals and Article 2 for definitions, the presentation of the text often gets in the way of the legal analysis. The SCiDA DMA Explorer is here to change that. We’ve redesigned how the DMA is read, turning a static document into a fluid, multi-pane workspace.

How the SCiDA DMA Explorer speeds up your research:
- Contextual Recitals: No more hunting for the “why” behind the “what.” The Explorer automatically identifies and displays the full text of related Recitals in a side panel next to the Article you are reading.
- Instant Definitions: Forget jumping back to the beginning of the text every time you encounter a defined term. Simply click any such notion within an Article to see its legal definition from Article 2 in a pop-up.
- Seamless Language Switching: Compare different language versions of any provision instantly. The tool maintains your position across languages, making it easy to spot nuances in the different official texts.
- Mobile-Friendly: While EUR-lex or a PDF can be difficult to read on a phone, our Explorer is fully mobile-friendly. Whether you’re in a meeting or on a train, you can pull up specific Articles and their related references with full usability.
- External Resource Access: Every entry includes links to external documents and resources that help you continuing your research beyond the DMA’s legal text.
The SCiDA DMA Explorer is designed for efficiency: the sidebar allows for rapid jumping between Articles, while the responsive design ensures that long, complex provisions remain readable and scrollable on any device. It’s about spending less time navigating the document and more time analyzing the law.
We would like to hear from you!
What we learnt from the digital economy: everything works in iteration (even digital regulation, see our SCiDA paper). Therefore, we are very much looking forward to your feedback and suggestions for improvement! Would you like to see another functionality? Is a document missing or do you experience technical bugs? Or would you just like to tell us, how you are making most of the tools? We want to hear all about it, so please reach out to team@scidaproject.com.
Happy Researching!
One more thing: The SCiDA Conference
Heads up: Our SCiDA conference is coming closer! On 26-27 May 2026, the digital competition community will reunite in Düsseldorf and discuss the latest academic advancements in the field. Watch this space for further information on the conference programme and registration!
